Anakon: A tool for analysis and control of complex data

Anakon is an analytical tool that returns control over extensive data directly into the hands of specialized professionals. It allows you to search, clean, and analyze information without requiring knowledge of programming or SQL.

The system was created as a solution for working with library data in formats MARC 21, MODS and indexes of the Kramerius Digital Library. However, thanks to its universal architecture, the same system can be used in other areas where organizations work with large datasets and need to perform analysis, quality control or reporting on them.

Problem: the data exists, but it's complicated to work with

Many organizations manage a large amount of data that has been created over a long period of time in various systems. They often have a complex structure and their quality gradually deteriorates due to migrations, manual adjustments or rule changes.

Complexly structured data requires a powerful analytical and control software solution

A typical problem is that:

  • Regular professional staff cannot analyze the data themselves, because it requires knowledge of databases or scripting
  • Any analysis or control of data means request to the IT department
  • Communication between experts and IT leads to time delays and misunderstandings
  • Data corrections and checks are often postponed or not performed at all

In the library environment, this problem manifests itself, for example, when working with catalogs and digital libraries. Changes made in the catalog may not be automatically reflected in the digital library, leading to inconsistencies and a gradual decline in metadata quality.

Solution: an analytical tool accessible directly to professionals

Anakon solves this problem by allowing work with complex data through an intuitive web interface.

Users can:

  • create advanced queries over data no knowledge of SQL or programming
  • filter entries by logical conditions or text patterns
  • work with complex data structure
  • analyze data across multiple sources simultaneously
  • display results in clear tables
  • export results for further processing
In Anakon, the experts themselves can perform analyses that would otherwise require the intervention of a programmer.

Order in data saves time and money

Implementation of an Anakon-based solution can bring several key benefits to organizations:

  • faster data analysis without the need for IT specialists
  • higher data quality because the checks can be carried out directly by professional personnel
  • time savings for the IT department, which does not have to deal with one-off analytical requests
  • better overview of data through analytical perspectives and visualizations

Portability of solutions to other fields

The principle on which Anakon stands is not limited to library data alone. The same approach can be used wherever organizations work with large datasets and need to perform analysis or control over them.

The intuitive user experience enables mass inspection and error diagnosis across multiple systems.

Typical examples may be:

  • business and CRM systems
  • customer or product database
  • internal documentation and company metadata
  • Logs and operational data of IT systems
  • Data Analytics in Public Administration

In these situations, a similar problem often arises: professionals need to obtain information from data, but their access is mediated through the IT department.

The solution is to create Specialized Analytical Tool that will make working with data directly accessible to those who need it. Thanks to this, communication barriers between specialists and IT can be removed and the work with information can be significantly accelerated.
